World Thalassemia Day is a global healthcare event commemorated every year on May 8th to raise awareness about the condition among the local public and policymakers, apart from supporting and strengthening the morale of the victims who have battled for years with this fatal disease.
Thalassemia Society Pune Chapter (TSPC), every year, celebrates World Thalassemia Day with various activities like raising awareness, blood donation camps and Fun entertainment programs for Thalassemia children and their families.
TSPC in collaboration with ISBTI arranged a rally to raise awareness in Pune. We had approx. 150 attendees including doctors, blood bank staff, Thalassemia children, parents. Rally was kicked off from Sahyadri hospital ( Deccan, Pune) to Shaniwarwada. Rally function was inaugurated by esteemed guests and we also had a famous Radio Jockey – RJ Sangram Khopade is associated with 95 BIG FM Pune.
TSPC President , Dr. Nita Munshi, presented a webinar to Bajaj Finserv employees to raise awareness about Thalassemia and the need to check Thalassemia trait status. We had a great response with almost 600 participants attending the webinar.
TSPC had a “Talent Show” on 10th May at Boat Club, Pune. This event was organized by Thalassemia warriors and we had 14 participants who did singing, dancing – very much appreciated by the audience. We had approx. 250 Thalassemia children and their families, donors, doctors, blood bank staff present for the program which was followed by dinner.
