Prevention-ZERO Thalassemia

We at the Thalassemia Society are committed for Prevention and Awareness drives in and around Pune. We have set a goal to achieve ZERO Thalassemia birth of new Patients in Pune by the year 2020.

As a part of this, we are planning to cover all corporates and colleges. We have conducted major awareness campaign in Infosys, Wipro, Fiat, VW, to name a few- where we have collected more than 500 samples for screening and are in process of counselling affected people with Thalassemia Trait. We are in process of similar mass awareness campaign / screening for prevention in various communities to create awareness of the disease condition .

Mission Statement

The Thalassemia Society Pune Chapter was founded by patients, parents and friends affected by Thalassemia. The foundation provides hope, comfort and encouragement to those battling this disorder. At the heart of the organization is a strong desire to help improve the quality of life for all patients with Thalassemia. We volunteer our time to organize conferences, raise funds to educate the community, ensure patients and parents know the latest in care.The foundation maintains a strong relationship with the medical community that provides diagnosis, treatment and care.

Disability Certificate Information and Forms

Dear All

As you know disability act “THE RIGHTS OF PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES ACT, 2016” (NO. 49 OF 2016) was passed in the parliament on 16.12.2016 and notified by the President on 27th December, 2016, which includes thalassemia, haemophilia and sickle cell disease in the list of disabilities in this act.

Rules were notified by MINISTRY OF SOCIAL JUSTICE AND EMPOWERMENT [Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan)] on 15th June, 2017

Excerpts from above rules related to certification of thalassemia, haemophilia and sickle cell disease have been attached for your quick review along with Form – IV (APPLICATION FOR OBTAINING DISABILITY CERTIFICATE BY PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES), Form – VII [issue of Certificate of Disability (In cases other than those mentioned in Forms V and VI)] and Form – VIII (Intimation of Rejection of Application of Disability Certificate)

Supreme Court order which has identified thalassemia as Benchmark disability is also attached for your information & record.

As you have been looking for Disability Certificate for long, the attached information will help you in getting Disability Certificate. Patients who are taking transfusion at Govt. Hospital Can take certificate directly from their transfusion centre. Patients, who are taking transfusion at private hospital, should get disability certificate from private hospital which will have to get it counter signed from a Govt. hospital/ CMO of the District.

Please note percentage of Disability has still not been notified so kindly issue as BENCHMARK DISABILITY in thalassemia. You may Quote Supreme court order in your certificates if you desire.
